Johnny Kudani Has Writer’s Block
This is a fictional story about Johnny Kudani, a writer who is currently suffering from writer's block. Although fictional many writers and content producers can certainly relate to his situation. If you produce content, read through the story. You will find it interesting.
Johnny Kudani suffered from writer's block.
It was a natural affliction among writers. But for Johnny it seemed to be lasting much longer than it should. During his second book project, he did experience writer's block but it only lasted two months. He was starting to worry.
When he spoke to his wife Nina about it, she brushed it off. It happens.” she said. “Don’t let it get to you, Johnny”.
Nina Kudani didn’t always support Johnny’s aspirations of becoming a writer. She thought that he should work just like everyone else did. He could certainly do this writing hobby during his spare time. Why can’t he just be like everyone else and get a job, she thought back then.
All of that changed when Johnny published his first book which sold like gangbusters. Then the second book sold even better. At that point, she knew writing was in the cards for him.
This didn’t take away Nina's uneasy feeling that his current book project was taking much longer than the last span did between books. He was in a rut and she could sense his anxiety. After the first book, he was excited to write but even back then he stalled for a couple of months. Then out of nowhere, he was able to tap into that magic that gave him the inspiration for the first book and within a couple of weeks had his new masterpiece completed and published. Renewed hope!
It’s been eighteen months this time around and nothing! He’s in a serious dry spell and she doesn’t know how to help him.
Because of the success of his two published books, The Kudanis were no strangers to the good life. At this point they still have a surplus from the royalties but both knew it wasn’t going to last forever. It wasn’t helping that soon they may have to tap into that surplus!
Nina tried to comfort Johnny, “Johnny, I know you’re in a rut. It will break soon!” trying to reassure herself more than him.
“I’m going to take a walk, Nina. I need to clear my head”, Johnny stated.
“Okay dear. Just keep in mind dinner will be ready in a couple of hours”, Nina said in an offhand way.
Johnny didn’t even respond. He was very anxious as of late. He realized that his anxiousness could be somewhat responsible for his prolonged plight. But he couldn’t help it. He just knew he had to snap out of this...
As he walked, thoughts of eventually running out of money kept filling his mind. This was also what was keeping him up night after night.
I have to figure out an idea for my next book, he thought.
Nina Kudani is not fond of Johnny taking these types of walks when he is in this frame of mind. He becomes so self absorbed that he usually walks much further than he should. She stopped getting mad at him about being late for dinner, though. It’s just who he is. He’ll probably be late this time as well.
An hour or so later, the phone rang. It was Johnny.
“You’re never going to believe what just happened! I can’t believe it myself. It’s incredible! It’s truly incredible!” Johnny said excitedly.
“Slow down, Johnny”, quipped Nina. “I can hardly understand what you’re saying.”
“Okay.” But it didn’t help. He was too excited to calm down – he just had to spew out the news to her. “I went into a coffee shop”, Johnny said.
Coffee is probably the last thing Johnny needed right now, Nina reflected. "Yes?"
“There was this guy who was writing away on his laptop like it was nobody’s business”, Johnny mentioned. “I simply had to ask him what he was writing about.”
Nina always found Johnny to be very personable. That’s how he won her over. He was never afraid to talk to people. It’s one of the many things she loved about him.
“What was his response?” Nina asked.
“Well, he seemed a little hesitant at first, but I think it’s because I broke his train of thought.” Johnny stated. “When he composed himself it seemed like I had his utmost attention”.
The Phoenix in Johnny was rising!
“He told me that he was in the middle of his ninth book. I told him I thought that was amazing. Right after that I told him I was a writer too. And he said he recognized me” Johnny always smiles when that happens. “I also let him know about my writer’s block and asked him if he ever experienced it.”
“Are you kidding me?” the stranger asked. “Of course it happens, well at least it used to. It’s a part of the process of being a writer.”
“Did you ask him his name?” Nina anxiously asked.
